How European movers are beating the heat

As temperatures rise across Europe, moving companies are adapting working practices to protect crews from extreme heat.

Members of the FEDEMAC & Friends WhatsApp community reported a range of practical measures, including providing extra drinking water, starting earlier in the morning or working later in the evening, scheduling additional rest breaks and increasing crew sizes to reduce individual workloads.

Some companies are also introducing heat-awareness training and operational guidance. Eurogroup International Movers in the UK delivers an Operational Risk and Welfare Seminar for all employees, covering heat exhaustion, heat stroke, hydration, work-rest cycles, ventilation and crew monitoring.

Jordan Mark Neave, Head of Global Moving Services, said the company aims to prevent heat illness, maintain lifting safety and reduce fatigue-related damage. During extreme heat, crews are encouraged to take ten-minute cooling breaks every hour.

Matrix Global Mobility recommends steady hydration, with crews drinking small amounts regularly rather than waiting for formal breaks. It also encourages electrolytes on long or particularly hot days.

In Spain, Mudinmar starts teams at 6.00 or 7.00 a.m. during summer, provides sunscreen and sunglasses, and uses water stations, portable coolers and warehouse fans.

Air-conditioned vehicles, cooler warehouses and buddy systems are also helping movers identify early signs of heat stress.
