Depot expansion increases capacity

S Jones Containers has expanded its Midlands depot and invested in new handling equipment to meet rising demand for container storage.

The Aldridge site has been increased by 200 TEU, giving the company’s main depot a total storage capacity of around 2,600 TEU. S Jones Containers said this makes it one of the largest container storage sites in the Midlands.

The company, which specialises in shipping container sales, hire and conversions, said demand for storage had grown significantly over the past two years, with the site regularly operating close to capacity. The additional space will allow it to support customers ranging from international shipping lines to smaller domestic businesses.

As part of the expansion, S Jones Containers has purchased a lower-emission Svetruck empty container handler. The new machine will help the team move and stack containers safely and efficiently, while providing resilience during maintenance periods.

Dean Lord, Depot Manager at S Jones Containers, said site capacity had recently been running at around 85-95%. He said the expansion would allow the company to meet growing demand while maintaining service levels.

The depot handles an average of 100 containers each day and also provides on-site repair services, helping customers save time and reduce transport costs.

S Jones Containers said the investment forms part of its ongoing improvement programme under ISO 14001 environmental management and ISO 45001 health and safety accreditations.

The company also operates a mobile repair service across Great Britain, covering lock replacement, door, floor and side panel repairs, leak repairs and ClearRestore paintwork treatment.
