UniGroup names new CEO

UniGroup has appointed John Hartmann as President and Chief Executive Officer, effective from 13 July 2026.

Hartmann succeeds Kevin A. Krakora, whose leadership concludes following a planned two-year engagement focused on strengthening UniGroup’s financial position, increasing equity, improving shareholder confidence and preparing the organisation for long-term growth.

Gary Quintalino, Chairman of UniGroup’s Board of Directors, thanked Krakora for providing steady leadership during an important period for the cooperative. He said Krakora had helped strengthen the company’s financial foundation and advance key strategic initiatives.

Hartmann brings more than 20 years of executive leadership experience across retail, distribution and service-based businesses, including organisations operating under cooperative governance models. His previous roles include Chief Executive Officer of Ascend Wellness, True Value Company and Mitre 10, Chief Operating Officer of Bed Bath & Beyond, and President of buybuy Baby. He has also held senior positions at HD Supply, The Home Depot and Cardinal Health.

UniGroup is the parent company of United Van Lines, Mayflower Transit and UniGroup Logistics. The company said it would continue investing in technology, marketing, sales, operational excellence and customer experience as part of its long-term growth strategy.
