A London-based property investor has launched a new self-storage business aimed at building a portfolio across the South and South West of England.
Cactus Self Storage, the latest venture from Martin’s Properties, has already acquired two sites in Didcot and Bristol, and is under offer to purchase three more as it scales its platform. The company has secured planning permission for its first purpose-built facility in Didcot, with construction expected to start in April and an opening targeted for Q1 2027.
Located at the corner of Abingdon Road and Hadden Hill, the Didcot development will provide around 300 units, offering a mix of drive-up, drive-in and traditional self-storage. Unit sizes are expected to range from 50 to 360 sq ft and above, serving both domestic and business customers. Planning has also been submitted for a second site at Bristol Parkway on Lime Kiln Close, acquired in October 2025.
Graham Gunn, Head of Operations at Cactus Self Storage, said the business aims to make storage “as easy and flexible as it should be”, with technology at the centre of the customer experience. He highlighted a fully digital journey, with bookings and account management handled online and via an app, reducing paperwork and simplifying the process. While tech-led, Gunn said Cactus will maintain a “human touch” through safe, secure sites and a strong community focus, alongside continuous improvements in sustainability.
Richard Bourne, Chief Executive at Martin’s Properties, said the launch reflects confidence in a fast-growing sector. He added that while supply has increased, Cactus aims to stand out through an integrated platform and a portfolio positioned as innovative, sustainable and high quality, aligned to evolving demand.
