Protecting buildings during moves

Building protection is becoming an important part of commercial moving, particularly where crews are working in offices, historic properties or buildings with sensitive finishes.

Surfaces such as marble lobbies, hardwood floors, high-gloss tiles, stairwells, elevators and doorframes can be costly to repair if damaged during a move. A scratch, chip or water stain can quickly become an issue for the customer, landlord or property manager.

JK Moving Services has adopted Polynite as an alternative to traditional Masonite floor protection. Masonite has long been used by the moving industry, but it is heavy, can chip or crack, and may curl when exposed to moisture, creating potential trip hazards.

Polynite is lighter, cleaner and water-resistant. It is designed to remain flat during use, can protect flooring for up to 10 years and is made from recycled materials. Its 32-inch width also helps it fit through most standard doorways without extensive cutting.

The protection process begins with a walkthrough to identify vulnerable surfaces. Crews then install protective materials before the move begins, keep traffic and equipment on covered routes, and remove the protection once work is complete.

The aim is simple: to complete the move while leaving the building in the same condition as when the crew arrived.
