S Jones delivers mobile pump units for Severn Trent project 

S Jones Conversions has supplied six bespoke containerised pump enclosures for a clean water resilience project involving Grundfos and Severn Trent Water. 

The modified 20ft shipping containers were designed to house mobile booster pump systems developed by Grundfos, enabling high-volume water transfer to be deployed quickly during emergencies or planned maintenance. 

The project comprised two separate mobile pumping systems. One uses six pumps arranged in pairs across three containers, while the second consists of three containers, each housing an individual pump. 

All six units were modified at S Jones Conversions’ Midlands workshop. Adaptations included side-opening access doors and carefully configured internal layouts to accommodate pumps, pipework and control panels while allowing the units to be transported safely on roll-on roll-off trailers. 

A Hazard and Operability study carried out during the design stage also identified a manual handling risk associated with the pipework. S Jones responded by lowering the position of the pipe inlets and outlets to reduce the amount of lifting required by operatives. 

Mark Braithwaite of Grundfos said safety had been a key consideration in both storage and operation of the mobile units. 

Andrew Nicholls, Head of Conversions at S Jones Containers, said the company worked closely with Grundfos to refine the design and provide a practical mobile solution for the water network.
