FEDEMAC has called on the European Union to officially recognise 19 May as Movers’ Day.
The European moving federation said the profession deserves greater acknowledgement for the role it plays in supporting households, businesses and public services through important and often stressful transitions.
Bertil Durieux, President of FEDEMAC, said movers do far more than transport furniture and boxes. He said they help families during difficult personal situations, support international relocations and manage complex hospital and business moves with minimum disruption.
FEDEMAC has formally contacted senior EU transport figures, including the European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, the Director-General of DG MOVE and the Chair of the European Parliament’s Transport and Tourism Committee, asking them to support recognition of the date.
The federation said official recognition would raise awareness of the profession and underline its contribution to labour mobility, continuity and everyday life across the single market.
Movers’ Day was launched by FEDEMAC in 2024 and has since gained international support. In 2025, 91 organisations from 31 countries took part, including 22 in Europe.
Durieux said movers should be seen as skilled professionals who help Europe function smoothly.
