FIDI training opens wider with new funding support 

Since January this year, the FIDI Academy has opened most of its training courses to companies outside FIDI membership. If you read about it in the Movers & Storers Magazine at the time, you’ll already know the basics: with the exception of the Leaders in Moving Forum, the full programme –  from webinars to FIDI’s flagship in-person seminars – now welcomes a limited number of participants from outside FIDI, provided they work for a company active in international moving and relocation, whether through a recognised industry association, a relocation management company, or a corporate global mobility team.  

What’s changed since then is that there’s now a source of funding to help offset the cost.  

The Global Moving Foundation, familiar to many as the successor to the long-running Alan F. Wohlstetter Scholarship Fund, restructured its offering in early 2025 to reach further into the industry. One part of that is the “Industry Training Program award”: up to US$500 per person, per year, towards training with a pre-approved list of providers, and the FIDI Academy among them.  

There’s no cap on how many people from one company can apply, which matters if you’re trying to bring several team members through a course at once. The application itself is short and straightforward: a form and a brief career intention statement setting out how the course fits into the applicant’s development.  

At the FIDI Academy, the financial contributions can be put towards a wide range of in-person and online formats. The “Essentials in Moving” (EiM) seminar gives junior or new staff a full grounding in the international moving process, while the MiM² seminar (the Masters in Moving and Mobility) — our “mini-MBA” — is aimed at those stepping into management. The in-person DSP seminar covers the full transferee journey for anyone working in, or moving into, destination services. The FIDI Corporate Sales Training is available as separate online and in-person modules, so teams can choose whichever fits their schedule and budget.  

For those who can’t get away from the desk, or who’d simply rather learn at their own pace, the online catalogue also includes Packers Training and a full schedule of webinars.  

Applying is an easy two-step process. First, check that your company or role meets the Academy’s eligibility criteria for non-FIDI participants — most companies active in moving and relocation will. Second, apply for the Industry Training Program award through the Global Moving Foundation’s own site, where the form and the eligibility details for the award itself are set out.
